Venue Spotlight: The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms
Are you newly engaged and looking for a beautiful (and versatile) barn venue in central Ohio? Look no further than the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms!
If you’re new to this blog, I’m Allyson, a wedding calligrapher and owner of The Pemberley Creative and I specialize in wedding signage. I recently participated in a styled wedding photo shoot at the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms where I got to meet the owners and see how gorgeous this venue looks all dressed up in its wedding finest. Not only did I meet some awesome wedding vendors and get some great photos out of this event, but I got to learn all about this venue and what it offers.
About The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms
The Old Barns at Dry Run farms is a new barn wedding venue in central Ohio that is soon to be a favorite of Columbus-area couples. The venue barn, i.e. the wedding ceremony and reception building, is the perfect combination of history and modern convenience.
The owners, Adrienne and Justin Barnes, have a special place in their hearts for preserving the history of Ohio farming. In 2011 and 2021, they relocated two local barns, the Carpenter Barn and the Justice Barn, onto their family farm property to be redesigned into homes for overnight accommodations. In 2022, the Barneses purchased this barn from the Schein family homestead and relocated it to their own farm, hoping to give it new life as a wedding venue.
The venue building is essentially a historic barn from 1850 preserved INSIDE of the larger, newly built barn. In 2022, the Barneses relocated the old barn from its original location three miles down the road to where it stands today, preserved within the larger wedding venue. They proceeded to build up what is now the venue barn around the original structure to expand the venue’s footprint and functionality. The venue barn highlights the rustic appeal of the original hand-hewn ceiling beams and wood shake roof, with the added modern amenities of updated bathrooms, a fully serviceable bar, a kitchen, and bride and groom’s suites - all fully climate controlled.
The historical aspects of the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms don’t end at the original barn structure. The venue barn features several vintage stone pieces that complete the authentic rustic look. These include a huge grindstone serving as a coffee table, a long stone trough used as a beverage cooler, and sandstone foundation blocks that form bench seating of one of the outdoor ceremony locations.
Why I Love This Venue - and Couples Will, Too!
There are so many things to love about the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms! If simple and rustic is your wedding vibe, this is the perfect wedding venue for you. The inside of the barn is decorated in warm wood tones that require little additional decoration for a completed wedding look. Even the wood farm tables and chairs are naturally elegant and don’t require additional table linens to look wedding ready.
That being said, the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms is a beautiful venue that serves as a great blank canvas for many different styles of wedding. You can lean into that rustic feel OR go with a more formal look for your wedding and the neutral décor will support either style. The styled shoot featured lots of colorful, spring florals that looked amazing next to the neutral tones of the venue. Whatever your wedding vibe, this venue will complement many styles of décor.
In addition to versatile décor options, the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms has an open vendor policy - you have the flexibility to bring in licensed vendors of your choosing for catering, music, florals, etc. This makes it easy to curate a wedding that is exactly your style and within your specified budget.
Another thing to love about this venue is the numerous amenities they offer, making it a fantastic place to throw a party. The large patio area features swing beds, a gas fire pit, and plenty of space for an outdoor cocktail hour. Inside there are TVs, a full bar, and a large dance floor. I was partial to the slushie machine at the bar - can you imagine anything better than an apple cider slushie at a fall wedding?
One slightly smaller point that cannot go unmentioned: the main barn is fully climate controlled, making the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms a great option for both winter and summer weddings alike. Many barn wedding venues in central Ohio, while authentically rustic, have no central heating and air, leaving you and your guests melting in the summer months, and freezing in the spring or fall (and just forget about winter!). Take it from someone who has been to several barn weddings in central Ohio - your guests will thank you!
What ceremony and reception spaces are available at this venue?
Couples have two options for outdoor wedding ceremonies at the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms. The sandstone terrace has plenty of space for a large ceremony with the bride and groom exchanging vows within the outdoor chapel. Guests can sit on both the sandstone benches and wooden benches in front of the chapel. Another option is to set up the ceremony beneath the shade of the large sycamore tree just behind the outdoor chapel area. Benches are available for this seating arrangement as well.
If you need a backup ceremony location in case of inclement weather, you can exchange vows in front of the huge stone fireplace at the center of the barn. Seating for up to 115 people can be set up on the dance floor in front of the fireplace, with overflow seating at the surrounding tables.
The wedding festivities continue with your reception in the barn. With seating for up to 280 guests across two floors, there is ample space for all of your loved ones to celebrate alongside you. Guests can grab a drink at the full service bar or join the fun on the spacious dance floor. The fireplace makes a wonderful backdrop for a sweetheart or head table in front of a large dancefloor. From its scenic grounds to its modern rustic aesthetic, The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms is an excellent space to host your wedding ceremony and reception.
What’s special about weddings at The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms?
The thing I think couples will love most about the Old Barns at Dry Run Farms is that weddings include use of the event space all weekend long from Friday to Sunday morning, with the access to the rental accommodations as early as Thursday evening. So many wedding venues limit your access to the space to the day of the wedding, which puts a lot of pressure on couples, their loved ones, and their wedding vendors to set up and tear down an entire wedding all in one day. The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms only books one wedding per weekend, so you can rest assured that you will not be rushed out for another event. The Barneses take pride in getting to know their couples during the wedding planning process, and want your experience to be truly enjoyable!
Not only do you have access to the facilities for setup, but there is ample space for whatever other events you may host that weekend. The deluxe wedding package even includes two barns for accommodations for up to 20 people at their on site rental properties, allowing you to keep the celebrations going all weekend. Host your rehearsal dinner on Friday evening, have a slow morning one of the guest barns, and get ready for your wedding day at the venue bride and groom’s suites.

How I Styled Wedding Signage for this Venue
For the styled shoot, I created two, hand painted, linen fabric signs - one welcome sign and one bar menu. The plan for the shoot was to feature lots of brightly colored florals, so I thought a neutral piece would contrast nicely from the flowers without detracting attention from the bold color. The linen fabric creates a contrast of texture from all of the wood features, while also leaning into the overall natural and organic feel of the venue. Fabric signage pieces are becoming extremely popular for weddings, and from the pictures you can see why!
I worked with the ladies of Trailer Made Mobile Bar on the his and hers signature drinks menu. The lavender lemonade matches the colorful floral theme of the day, and the old fashioned pairs nicely with the wood tones throughout the barn. I love how the ivory fabric pops on the dark wood of the bar to create an eye-catching drink menu that your guests won’t be able to miss!
Unfortunately, the third piece I made, an acrylic bar sign to go with the Prosecco popsicles, met an untimely end in the venue’s pond before we could get any styled pictures of it. It was a gorgeous day but the wind was crazy and it blew right off of the outside bar! The boxwood prosecco pop wall was still gorgeous and so vibrant with all of the colors even without the sign, but I wanted to share the picture regardless.
I look forward to creating more calligraphy pieces and signage for couples getting married at The Old Barns at Dry Run Farms. This venue has ample space for décor, so I’d love to see a large seating chart display near the barn entrance. A hand lettered seating chart on a large mirror or wood canvas would be a stunning fixture to show your 280 guests where to sit.
